I have always been drawn to lasers, and what could be better than a hand held laser that you can use like a sword? Imagine what it must feel like to hold a laser weapon that was feared by everyone.
When Star Wars IV came out in the '70's, I thought that the Jedi powers were cool, but nothing was better than the lightsaber. I wanted one so badly. I was just a little kid, but I just knew that I would have a lightsaber one day. I begged my parents for one. The truth was that lasers were so new back then that they didn't even know what a laser was, much less a lightsaber.
In those days, toys weren't very developed. The greatest thing that we had going was Pong. I believe that it was right after episode V came out that the first toy lightsaber was sold. It wasn't fancy, it was made from cheap plastic, and it sure didn't glow like a laser should. But I loved it, and I rarely went anywhere without my laser sword.
Then episode I finally came out. While I wasn't that thrilled with the actual movie, one part of it made me so happy. I will never forget when Darth Maul pulled out his double-bladed lightsaber. I was literally stunned! That sucker had two beams of lasers coming out of both ends. Darth Maul wielded it more like a Ninja than a Jedi or Sith. It was incredible!
Without any doubt, I know for a fact that Darth Maul's lightsaber was the coolest one on any Star Wars movie. I just need to learn how to make one now. Do any of you have any laser crystals that I can borrow?

Everyone says Darth Maul's is the coolest. In some ways it is.. but it was almost too much on purpose. "We need to give the badass bad guy a badass weapon that makes him stand out."
I was always partial to the standard jedi blue or green.
